Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho has patched up his relationship with manager Erik ten Hag, but uncertainty still looms over his future, with interest from several top European clubs.
Sancho, who joined United for £73m in 2021, experienced a turbulent season last year, including a public rift with Ten Hag that led to his loan move to Borussia Dortmund in January. During his time with Dortmund, Sancho showed signs of rediscovering his form, playing a crucial role in their run to the Champions League final.
Despite Sancho’s improved performances, Sir Jim Ratcliffe has been open to selling him this summer, with Borussia Dortmund, Juventus, and Paris Saint-Germain all expressing interest. However, Ten Hag seems inclined to give Sancho another shot at Old Trafford.
In a recent interview, Ten Hag hinted at a potential position change for Sancho, suggesting he could be used as a striker, particularly with Rasmus Hojlund currently sidelined with an injury. “Jadon can of course play as a striker,” Ten Hag said. “He can also play in wide areas, but it could be that he’s a good option in the center.”
Sancho’s tenure at United has been underwhelming so far, with 82 appearances yielding just 12 goals. Nevertheless, he has expressed enthusiasm about returning to the club. Speaking to Man Utd TV, Sancho said, “Definitely, 100 per cent. It’s been nice, enjoying the weather, back with the lads. I love the facilities in America.”
Despite Sancho’s positive outlook, the Daily Mail reports that a move to PSG is still a possibility, with United reportedly valuing him at £40m. This price tag may deter Dortmund, but Juventus could potentially use funds from the sale of Federico Chiesa, a target for Tottenham, to make an offer for Sancho.
Ten Hag has emphasized his willingness to give Sancho another chance. “We spoke well,” Ten Hag stated. “Anyone can make a mistake. If the player reflects well on that, then you draw a line and move on again. This club needs good players, and one thing is for sure: Jadon is a terribly good player. I hope that the click still comes, and that he will contribute to our success.”
Should Sancho remain with United, he will face competition from Marcus Rashford, Antony, Amad Diallo, and Alejandro Garnacho for a starting spot, while also potentially providing cover for Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee in the striker role.
